Setting

In short

The TESLA Chair uses functional magnetic stimulation to activate the pelvic-floor muscles for selected cases of urinary incontinence and pelvic-floor weakness. Treatment is non-invasive, performed while the patient remains clothed, and does not require anaesthesia.

Everyone with a weak pelvic floor is told to do kegel exercises. Almost nobody does them correctly or consistently, and quite a few people cannot contract the right muscle at all, which is often the reason it became weak in the first place.

The Tesla Chair uses a magnetic field to produce repeated pelvic-floor contractions while you remain clothed. The intensity is supervised and adjusted during the session, and the consultant recommends a course based on the diagnosis and response.

Conditions treated

What this treats

  • Stress urinary incontinence
  • Urge urinary incontinence
  • Mixed urinary incontinence
  • Postpartum incontinence
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Nocturia, or waking at night to pass urine
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Regeneration after childbirth
  • Rehabilitation after pelvic floor surgery

The science

How TESLA Chair actually works

Functional magnetic stimulation uses a rapidly changing magnetic field to depolarise the motor neurons that supply the pelvic floor. Those nerves fire and the muscle contracts, exactly as it would during a voluntary kegel, except that it happens thousands of times in a single session and at an intensity most people cannot reach on their own. The field passes straight through clothing and skin, so nothing touches or enters the body. Over a course of sessions the muscle rebuilds strength and endurance, which is what restores control.

Why patients choose it

What this means for you

You stay fully clothed

Nothing is inserted and nothing is removed. You sit down, and you can read your phone through the session.

Repetitive muscle activation

Magnetic stimulation produces repeated pelvic-floor contractions during the supervised session.

Completely non invasive

No needles, no probes, no anaesthesia. The magnetic field passes through clothing.

For men as well as women

Used for male stress incontinence, erectile dysfunction and recovery after prostate surgery.

Step by step

What the visit looks like

01

Assessment

Your consultant works out what type of incontinence you have, because stress, urge and mixed are treated differently.
02

Sit down, clothed

You take a seat on the chair. Nothing is worn, removed, inserted or attached.
03

The session

The pelvic floor contracts repeatedly through the sitting. You feel a tapping or pulling sensation, not pain.
04

Complete the course

Sessions are usually twice a week. Improvement builds through the course as the muscle regains strength.

Questions

What people ask before booking

Anything not covered here, ask the consultant at the visit. There is no charge for asking and nothing is committed to until you decide.

No. You sit on the chair fully clothed. The magnetic field passes straight through fabric, so nothing is removed, inserted or attached at any point.

It is CE certified to EU MDD Class IIA and is non invasive with no reported complications in normal use. It is not suitable for people with a pacemaker, an implanted metal device in the pelvic region, or during pregnancy, which is why the assessment beforehand matters.

Most patients are advised a course of six to eight sessions, usually two a week. The exact number depends on how weak the pelvic floor is and how long the problem has been there. Your consultant confirms this after examining you.

A tapping or pulling sensation deep in the pelvic floor as the muscle contracts. It is not painful. The intensity is set to a level you are comfortable with and increased gradually across the course.

Yes. It is used for male stress incontinence, for erectile dysfunction and for pelvic floor rehabilitation after prostate surgery.
